Reflections of an Admirer of the late Queen Elizabeth
A godly inheritance
God never wanted Israel to have a king, because God was the King of Israel. Nevertheless, when there was a good king, such as David or Jehoshaphat or Hezekiah, who put their trust in the Lord, God would bless them.
We, too, in Britain have been blessed with a godly monarch for most of my life. I grew up in the East End of London with bombs falling all around and King George VI and Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother refusing to shelter in Canada for the rest of the war. Instead, they chose to stay in London with their people, sharing in the dangers, and we loved them for their faithfulness. Queen Elizabeth II inherited many of the godly characteristics and values of her parents and she herself came to a personal faith in God.
A word from the Lord
Monica and I had a dear friend, a truly godly woman who was filled with the Holy Spirit. We loved to visit with her and enjoy the presence of Jesus in godly fellowship. She was a cousin of the Queen and every autumn she used to go to Balmoral to stay in a cottage in the grounds and spend time with her Majesty.
Queen Elizabeth II inherited many of the godly characteristics and values of her parents and she herself came to a personal faith in God.
Every year, a week or so before she went, she would contact us asking if I had any word from the Lord to take to the Queen. Each year for a period of about 15 years I gave her something I felt the Lord had shared with me, and sometimes also asked David Noakes who would also regularly contribute a word.
Our friend used to report that as soon as she arrived, one of the first questions the Queen asked was – did she have a word for her? They would then spend time together discussing it and praying together. The Queen was a truly godly lady who cared deeply for the nation and her children. I couldn’t help feeling, however, that she was blinded to what her ‘favourite’ son Andrew was doing, and neither David or I ever received a revelation about him; if we had done, we would surely have passed it on to her.
Ungodly laws
I have spent forty years of my life warning that the nation was losing its godly heritage through a series of ungodly Acts of Parliament in which we have turned our backs upon God.
Neither David or I ever received a revelation about Andrew; if we had done, we would surely have passed it on to her.
This sorry process began with the Witchcraft Act of 1951 followed by the Obscenity Act of 1959. Then came the Abortion Act of 1967 and the Sexual Offences Act in the same year. The following year appeared the Theatres Act (1968), which removed censorship, and shortly after, the Divorce Reform Act of 1969.
In more recent times we’ve seen the appearance of the Children Act (1989), and in the 1990s, the Sunday Trading Act (1993), the Education Act (1996) and the Finance Act 1999, which removed the marriage allowance. The new millennium has witnessed the Civil Partnership Act 2004, and the Gender Recognition Act in the same year, followed by the Equality Acts of 2006 and 2010, and the Same-Sex Marriage Act in 2013.
All of these were ungodly Acts whereby the nation turned further away from God, and which the Queen was forced to sign into law, despite it being the one part of her job that she hated doing.
Shaking the pillars of society
Our ministry team gave many warnings as the nation turned its back upon God and our biblical heritage – many of these were published in our printed magazine Prophecy Today. We warned that God was going to shake every part of our national life – all our social institutions, including the monarchy.
Since her death there has been no one at the helm to intercede on behalf of the nation, and we have not had God-fearing Governments.
I nevertheless believed that the Hand of the Lord was there to guide and protect the nation so long as the Queen lived. Since her death there has been no one at the helm to intercede on behalf of the nation, and we have not had God-fearing Governments.
As a result, we are now seeing the fruit of what has been sown, with much more yet to be revealed. God is indeed shaking the nations as He promised in Hebrews 12: “So that what cannot be shaken may remain… A kingdom that cannot be shaken” (verses 26–27).
Therefore, none of us who love Jesus should be afraid, because it is God who is shaking everything. He sits as a refiner and purifier of silver to cleanse and purify – preparing the way for the kingdom that cannot be shaken.
