Breath of the Spirit in Kenya
The Migori Initiative: 3
We have reported previously on the explosion of the gospel in Kenya (read previous instalments here and here). The work is spreading like a fire even as the rest of the world is burning.
Wonderful things
Against the backdrop of the impending collapse of the Iranian regime; the gradual erosion of Syria and the persecution of Christians there; the rise of the beast system in Nigeria, Cameroon and DRC amongst others, and the succumbing to indolence of the West and its prevalent anti-Christian malaise – wonderful things are occurring in the East African nation of Kenya, famed for its scenic landscapes and vast wildlife preserves.
From a little village in the rural Kenyan backwaters, the Spirit of God is empowering pockets of people and summoning them out of the dark legacies of their past – be that tribal witchcraft, Islam or the lures of the false prosperity gospel.
Following the dramatic story of a witch being converted, word quickly spread and in no time another witch contacted the brothers in Migori wanting to be saved - he was tired of the dark magic powers that had controlled him and the killing of fellow men, and he wanted to know the truth of Christ Jesus.
The brothers met with the witch; he was preached at and prayed for in the name of Christ Jesus and a demonic spirit left him. Following the exorcism he and the brothers burnt his witchcraft paraphernalia in an outward act of repentance.

Use of funds
We donated some of the funds collected through the gofundme account to sponsor the trip and the brothers set out. They stopped along the way and met other believers as well as several Muslims; wonderfully, these became persuaded of the truth and were added to the number. After they were prayed for, some extra funds were sent to provide food for them and get them established.
Following the conversion of one woman, some of her Muslims neighbours wrongfully reclaimed the contents of her house, leaving her with nothing. So our team decided to make provision for her, so that whilst the women prayed and read the bible, they gathered materials and rebuilt a house for her. Meanwhile, another woman who had been in hospital sadly passed away, so we assisted with funds for a coffin.
A young man in another village pastor Benard went to was caught having stolen a goat. His parents died two years ago, he and his siblings were living with their poor grandparents and hadn’t eaten properly for three years. When he was caught, the villagers were going to stone him to death. But Benard paid remuneration and the child was freed; meanwhile the entire family received the gospel and made profession of faith in Christ Jesus.
Meanwhile, a local Chieftain was so moved by the gospel that he not only got saved but purchased eight bibles for distribution. But it wasn’t all good news; during a short interval, brother Samuel was attacked by some Muslims and was badly wounded.

Tanzania
Some weeks later, several churches from Uganda joined with our team and arranged a meeting to thank and praise the Lord. Following this, they were invited to travel to Tanzania to preach in the town of Mwanza by Lake Victoria. It involved a 200-mile journey by bus, which took 4-hours, though they couldn’t resist taking a break to share the gospel along the way.
When they arrived, they met the Mullah who had invited them. He was the leader of Mwanza central mosque. He his wives and a total of over thirty other people accepted Jesus and demanded to be baptised that same day!
A group of believers from a local fellowship spoke to them and encouraged them, while yet another group professed to accept Christ Jesus and said they would attend our coming conference (bringing together over 1,000 pastors from Africa ) and be baptised.
The conversion of the Mullah brought a heap of indignations and revenge missions against both him and our team. The opposition was so strong that it forced us to flee via a taxi out of the town to make refuge to another. I have no doubt it was the prayers of the saints that helped spare our lives as well as the life of the Mullah, who is now in hiding together with his family members. We did not feel it appropriate to take photos of him but the word of his testimony is burning like bush fire! Glory be to Yeshua.
Word got back some time afterwards that the small team (consisting of Benard, Poshwagoya and Samuel) had returned home safely and were full of praise for the work the Lord was doing.
Along the way, the funds were running low in the gofundme and, to be honest, I had run out of options. I had approached TV stations, internet ministries churches and all manner of people to raise awareness - but to no avail. Yet always without fail The Lord, the Lord of hosts, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob has provided.
House church in Migori
Today we discussed with a group of interested locals the issue of marriage and women rights in Islam. We also spoke about sharia law. We felt we needed to be open with them and tell them that Mohamed was a liar and a polygamist who lied even to his wife. We went on to talk about the Tanakh - the canonical Hebrew Bible, comprising the Torah (Law), Nevi'im (Prophets), and Ketuvim (Writings).
Apparently, about ten people have decided to join him in preaching the true gospel taught by brother Mark.
Very recently, our team was asked by the first Muslim converts in Migori to go and start a house church for the believers who got saved by their preaching and testimony in that district. The small fellowship will meet in his home. Apparently, about ten people have decided to join him in preaching the true gospel taught by brother Mark. This is clearly of God's own doing
Meanwhile, one of the Mullahs we preached to in Nairobi lost his wife the other day. He has nobody to support him. The body will be transported to Kisumu from Nairobi. He is asking if we can travel there and lead the ceremony. We will also meet more Mullahs who heard about us through him.
In the power of the Spirit
It was a privilege to partner with the African inland Church in Mwanza, where we had the opportunity to help train and equip over 100 young students on:
-
God's covenants to Israel and the Church,
-
The Islamic religion; and
-
Our mission to preach the Gospel effectively.
It was a powerful and fruitful time marked by salvations, healings and incredible testimonies.
One testimony tha
t stood out was a woman who had suffered for months after a snake bite. She was brought on a boda boda (motorcycle taxi service) to a mini crusade in a marketplace in Mwanza, being unable to walk properly due to pain and infection. After prayer, she was healed and able to walk pain-free.
With God we fear not. Many Muslims are not at all happy with us because God is doing His work and the good teachings taught by brother Mark has brought an enormous challenge to the Muslims.
Brothers, Bishop Benard, brother Potash and I have been fasting in full knowledge that the Lord God of Israel has stood with us. We are praying for you brothers for your good hearts to continue praying and giving us support where necessary for God has chosen us to do His work. God bless you all.
As always, we covet your prayers for the work and for a move of the Lord across Kenya. For the price of a cup of coffee (and not always a good one!), you can feed a family or provide support in various other ways.
We are a very small charity that depends entirely on the generous support of donors. If you have been moved by this article and feel you would like to contribute, we would greatly appreciate your donation and promise to put it to the very best use.
